Rise & Knead Bakery: Building an Economic Engine for Komati

by Lesedi Mkhize

What if every loaf of bread could help build a stronger community?

That is the vision behind Rise & Knead Bakery, a community-owned initiative led by Nonkhululeko Mahlangu, which aims to turn local enterprise into a driver of jobs, skills development, food security and wealth creation in Komati.

Through the Komati Bakery Co-operative, the initiative seeks to establish a resident-led enterprise producing quality artisanal bread and baked goods while ensuring that the economic benefits remain within the community.

But the vision goes beyond baking.

Rise & Knead Bakery is also advancing sustainable agribusiness, with plans to support high-value, technology-driven farming of premium snack peppers and connect local producers with regional retail markets.

At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to community ownership, transparency, accountability, compliance and participation.

Rise & Knead Bakery is inviting strategic partners, suppliers, investors and community members who believe in locally driven economic development to become part of the journey.

Whether through skills, resources, investment or collaboration, the goal is simple: to create sustainable opportunities that allow Komati residents to become owners of their economic future.

Local roots. Lasting impact.
