A note from our editor

Today, South Africa marks Youth Day, a day that honours the courage, sacrifice, and determination of the young people who stood up for their rights on 16 June 1976.

Their bravery changed the course of our nation’s history and remains a powerful reminder of the role young people play in shaping society.

50 years later, the challenges facing young people may look different, but the need for opportunity, quality education, meaningful employment, and a seat at the decision-making table remains far from over.

Here in Komati, Youth Day is not only a time to remember the past but also an opportunity to celebrate the young people who are making a difference in our community today. From learners striving for academic success, to young entrepreneurs creating opportunities, athletes representing their communities, artists expressing themselves through creativity, and volunteers serving others. Our youth continue to inspire.

As we commemorate this important day, we also recognise the obstacles many young people still face and the collective responsibility we share to support, mentor, and invest in the next generation.

The future of Komati and South Africa rests in the hands of today’s youth. The dreams, ideas, talents, and determination of young people today will help shape the communities and country of tomorrow.

”The dreams, ideas, talents, and determination of young people today will help shape the communities and country of tomorrow.”

As part of our Youth Month campaign titled ‘Your Story Matters’, Komati News Flash has called on young people to share their stories, aspirations, achievements, and challenges. We have already received several inspiring submissions from young people who are breaking barriers, building businesses, pursuing their dreams, and making a positive impact in their communities. Throughout the remainder of Youth Month, we will be sharing these remarkable stories and celebrating the achievements of our youth.

We also encourage more young people to come forward and tell us their stories. Whether you are working towards a goal, overcoming challenges, achieving success in education, sport, business, the arts, or community service, your journey matters and your voice deserve to be heard.

Komati News Flash wishes all young people a meaningful Youth Day and encourages you to continue raising your voices, pursuing your goals, and making your mark on the world.

Happy Youth Day!
