Message from the Co-Founding Partner
Dear Reader,
My journey into community leadership did not begin in a boardroom or through formal titles, it began on the ground, as a welder working within the very power stations that have shaped our local economy for decades.
Like many in Mpumalanga’s coal-dependent communities, I have experienced the uncertainty that comes with change. The Just Energy Transition is not just a policy discussion to me, t is something that directly affects workers, families, and the future of our communities. I have seen the fear, the confusion, and at times, the lack of clear information. And that is where my mission truly began.
Through Komati News Flash, we are building more than a news platform. We are creating a space where information is accessible, where conversations are honest, and where communities are empowered to understand and participate in the decisions that shape their lives.
My work through community structures, local development platforms, and the NIA Community Foundation has always been guided by one belief: communities must not be left behind. We cannot afford to be passive observers of change. We must be active participants.
Leadership, I have learned, is not always easy. There are moments where one is pulled between personal growth and community responsibility. But the reality is that many young people still need guidance, and many communities are still searching for direction. That responsibility cannot be ignored.
We are also challenged by division, too often, we allow politics to separate us instead of focusing on development. Yet, we are a community rich in resources and opportunity. If we can shift our mindset from conflict to collaboration, there is so much we can achieve together.
I strongly believe that information must be shared in a way that people understand. As leaders, it is our duty to continuously learn, to research, and to break down complex issues into simple, practical knowledge that communities can use. Because when people understand, they can act.
Through this platform, I invite you to be part of this journey. Engage with us, share your voice, and contribute to building a future that is inclusive, informed, and sustainable.
